We’re Moving to New York…

It’s as official as it gets in our world. A couple weeks back I mentioned we were working on relocating to Brooklyn but there were still a lot of details to be worked out. While there are still plenty of logistics, little things…like a place to live, the pieces are falling into place rather nicely. Rina’s heading out to NYC to size up the housing situation, then we’ll nail down transportation. A couple things that have been particularly surprising…

More on moving to Brooklyn…Brains

The anticipation and excitement around our San Francisco to Brooklyn (#SF2Bklyn) move is growing by the day. Rina is took a redeye (what a trooper!) last night to NYC to kick off the house hunt. She’s been trolling CraigsList and PadMapper like they owe her money. Hopefully we’ll get lucky and she’ll find the perfect spot without having to stomp all over Brooklyn. Timing her trip has been a calculated risk, since apt. inventory tends to be lower during mid-month. On the other hand, if she’s unable to find a …

Other Recent Sightings…

Did you know that I’m also blogging over at Rubis Solutions? Seems that I’ve had a fair number of readers of this site ask what I’m working on which came as somewhat of a surprise. In case you missed it, I’m helping small and medium businesses move to Google Apps and The Cloud. Here are a few of the recent articles over on the Rubis blog.

Chicago Streets

It seemed strange being back in Chicago (as a tourist) a couple weeks ago. I’ve trolled these same streets countless times but it just seemed different. We had a great time but I was occasionally reminded of the drivers for leaving. Nonetheless, Chicago in the summer is a fantastic place to visit. In a single weekend here’s what was going on…

Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup (ok, that doesn’t happen every summer)
Blues Fest
Literary Fest
Ribs Fest
Old Town Art Fair

Motivation

Somewhat random thoughts on this Saturday morning – You may have already seen this but Rina passed it along yesterday as spinoff of a larger discussion that’s been brewing on the home front. It ceases to amaze me that companies and managers alike continue to be perplexed by how to motivate their teams. Likewise, too many of us fail to understand or communicate what motivates us personally. Fortunately, I think we’re starting to see somewhat of a shift or at least a segment of the workforce is beginning to be more …

Kayaking Mission Bay

Yesterday, Rina and I decided to grab a kayak and paddle out into the bay. I was goofing around with the cam on the way back…couldn’t help but add some cheesy music to drown out our banter…especially at the end where I had to speed up the playback to fit it in YouTube.
And no, this isn’t a picture from our trip…click to play the video.

Funny…it felt a lot longer when you’re paddling into the wind, navigating cargo ships and sailboats.

Where Focus Happens

The end is upon us…2010 NBA is drawing to a close. The Where amazing happens ad campaign is one of a few that I wont soon forget.
First there was Where Clutch Happens…then came Where X Happens…and now… Where Focus Happens! Clutch is still my favorite but in 31 seconds this packs quite a punch.
The clip is in HD, so you might want to change the player setting to 480p.

Roz Does Fort Funston

Goofing around with my Flip Video. I’m not much good behind or in front of the camera, so pretty sure this could give you motion sickness.

How I work…from home

People always ask me, “How do you like working from home? Isn’t it lonely, distracting, boring….”. This question always strikes me as a little odd. I suppose it’s a natural stepping stone in a conversation about “what I do” but it seems strange because regardless of the work, job or company, I’ve always been more or less “remote”. My laptop and an steady internet connection and I’m good to go. I’ve been doing it for long enough and in several different capacities that I’ve become rather accustomed to it. In …
